The Würth
Museum of La Rioja www.museowurth.es was inaugurated on September 7th, 2007 in the
Industrial Park, El Sequero. Its location is precisely one of the
principal traits of its identity. Since the '90s, the Würth
Group has founded exhibition spaces in some of its European
headquarters with one clear objective: fuse culture and enterprise in
the same space.
Würth
S.A. is a multinational retailer of material for professionals of
different disciplines that operates on an international level. Its
proprietor, the Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth, developed a
successful commercial strategy that has made Würth a business of
international reference in different sectors. In parallel, since the
'60s, Reinhold Würth began the creation of a private collection of
Contemporary Art that today is considered to be one of the most
important in Europe, and makes up one of the facets of the internal
development of the business.
The Würth Museum of La Rioja is the only exhibition space that
the company has in Spain and it doesn't just act as a setting for
showing the depths of the Würth collection, it is an open space where

Al Wurth hemos ido en dos ocasiones, en mayo y en octubre. No teneies mas que ver lo tranquilas que se sientan unas en el jardín, mientras otros se encogen y piensan ¿pero cuando dejarán de hacernos fotos...? En estas visitas la gente comentó lo importante que son los buenos guías. Con Jose y con Irache además de divertirnos aprendimos mucho y se nos pasó el tiempo volando. Con el grupo que viajó en Mayo también visitamos una bodega y aquí teneis algunos momentos de los mejores brindis. Ahora estamos trabajando para preparar la próxima visita a finales de Enero y volveremos a la Rioja. A lo largo del mes próximo iremos concretando. De momento, podeis ir alimentando las ganas...y la curiosidad,¿cual será el destino?
For any English speakers visiting this blog I want to share a bit of my experience from the trip to Museo Würth, my favorite place so far out of all these other spectacular trips!
ResponderEliminarMuseo Würth in La Rioja is truly a diamond in the rough. La Rioja is one of the most beautiful parts in Spain filled with mountains and vast green fields as far as the eye can see, so one can imagine that choosing this visually spectacular region would be ideal to set up a museum… so we thought too. Driving through La Rioja is always a pleasure, but when we entered into the Industrial Zone we were all a bit confused. That’s when we arrived to our destination. And don’t let the Industrial Zone setting fool you. We immediately forgot we were in such a less than pleasing spot. The property sets itself apart from the area by its beautiful design constructed with clean white walls filling in the few spaces that aren’t enormous sheets of glass that are the protagonists of the architecture, with pops of red in the spiral staircases and the sculptures sprinkled over the lawns. But this is set against the lush green gardens that hug the outskirts: the perfect place to relax and take everything in. After soaking in the beauty of this place, and we hadn’t even entered yet, we noticed there is a factory next door just as well designed as the museum. Well that is the greatest part of these museums. Built and designed for Würth’s employees so that they can enjoy a bit of art and culture as an escape from their heavy and exhausting workloads.
And the artwork is a treasure. Contemporary art from Spain and Germany including Max Ernst, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Edvard Munch, Emil Nolde and Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Fernando Botero, Andy Warhol, Eduardo Chillida, Tony Cragg, Alfred Hrdlicka, René Magritte, Anselm Kiefer, and Roy Lichtenstein.
Maybe art museums are “boring” to you or you don’t quite understand abstract art or expressionism. Forget those thoughts. The tour guide we had was great and made everything so practical and understandable for even the least knowledgeable or interested. They were able to spark a profound interest and curiosity in all of us that visited to the point that we were absolutely enchanted with this hidden gem!
